Welcome to Newcomers from the EMGA President

Welcome to the Eisenhower Men’s Golf Association (EMGA).  The purpose of this letter is to briefly describe our organization and introduce its many programs.

EMGA was formally organized in 1988 and continues to provide both a competitive and social golfing experience to our approximately 250 members. It is a volunteer organization that has survived and grown through the efforts of our members.  We are governed by an Executive Council (EC), which is an elected body, and the EMGA Board composed of the EC and Committee Chairs.  A current list of our EC and committee members is at the EMGA Web site, www.emgacolorado.org and in our EMGA Handbook, which will be available at the beginning of the 2010 golf season.  Our operating committees are the backbone of EMGA.  They are the heavy lifters who make everything happen.

Below are the four major activities the EMGA conducts during the golf season:

Open Play/Open Play Competition:  Thursday is the normal day for EMGA activity. Open Play (OP) is either in a flighted competitive event including medal play and skins called Open Play Competition (OPC) or just a fun round during Thursday tee times (OP).  Sign up for OP/OPC tee times in the EMGA Book at the Eisenhower Golf Course (EGC) Tee Time Desk.

Tournament Play:  Our tournament committee hosts a variety of formats for team and individual play, usually every other Thursday from OP/OPC.  See the schedule of events in the 2010 Schedule on our web site or the EMGA Handbook.  Sign up before each tournament either in the EMGA Book at the EGC Tee Time Desk or on our web site by selecting the Tournament Signup button.

Match Play:  This is head to head competition among EMGA members where you schedule your own matches during two separate half-season sessions.  The winners of each session play for the EMGA Match Play Championship at the end of the season.  We’ll announce sign up procedures later.

Home and Away:  In 2010 we offer our members the opportunity to play eight other outstanding courses in the Pikes Peak region.  The play format is Match Play with two man teams from both EMGA and another men’s club competing for prizes and bragging rights.  We play one round at EGC and the other at the other club, usually a week apart.  We select EMGA members by lottery regardless of handicap to play each set of matches.  There are additional fees to cover green fees, carts, prizes and meals.  Normally 12 to 16 of our members play in each match.

Our EMGA dues for 2010 are $35.  We use this money for prizes, members’ meals for special events and our operating costs.  Our goal is to return as much value as we can to our members.

The EMGA is composed of a unique group with varied backgrounds who like you share a love for golf.  We are sure you will develop many lasting friendships over the course of the season.  Have a great golfing year in 2010.
